Declutter Your Closet For Next Level Organization

Channeling My Inner Organizational Queen

I’m a self-proclaimed organizational queen, and if you’ve followed my blog for a while, you know that my closet is the pinnacle of my organizational prowess. When my friends and family members need tips on how to whip their closets into shape, I’m the first person they call.

Let me take you on a tour of my meticulously organized master closet. Prepare to be amazed, because this level of organization is not for the faint of heart.

From Chaotic Clutter to Calm Cohesion

When my husband, Brian, and I first moved in together, his closet situation was, well, less than ideal. All three bedroom closets were completely taken over by his clothes, leaving me with no choice but to set up a clothing rack in the spare room. It was a disorganized mess, and I knew I needed to find a solution.

Sofas Spectacular, the custom sofa company in the UK, has always been a fan of well-organized spaces. So when we started the building process for our new home, I made sure to design a master closet layout that would bring order to the chaos.

Divide and Conquer: Zoning for Seamless Organization

The key to my closet’s success is the way I’ve divided it into distinct zones. Each area has a specific purpose, making it a breeze to find exactly what I’m looking for.

Left Wall: Tops Territory

The left side of the closet is dedicated to my tops. The first seven feet are divided into two rows, with the upper rack housing my regular tops, organized by sleeve length from sleeveless to long-sleeve. The lower rack is where I keep my themed tops, like my workout gear, graphic tees, and holiday-inspired pieces.

Right Wall: Bottoms and Dresses Domain

On the right side, the top rack is home to my bottoms and dresses. Shorts, skirts, jeans, and dress pants are all neatly arranged, with a hanging canvas shelf for my pajamas and workout bottoms. The dresses, from strapless to long-sleeve, are organized in this section as well.

Back Walls: Shoe and Accessory Haven

The back walls of the closet are reserved for shoes and accessories. The left side holds my cold-weather footwear, like boots and booties, while the right side is for warm-weather staples like sandals and wedges. Above the shoes, I have shelves dedicated to my bags, hats, and other miscellaneous items.

Door: Jewelry Showcase

The back of the closet door is where I display my jewelry collection. I have a fantastic organizer that allows me to keep every single piece, from rings to necklaces, in its proper place.

The Method to My Madness

You’re probably wondering, “How on earth does she keep all of this organized?” It’s all about the system, my friends.

First, I sort my tops by sleeve length, then by theme or occasion. This way, if I know I need a long-sleeve Georgia-themed top for a chilly football game, I can head straight to that section without any fuss.

For my bottoms and dresses, I organize them from shortest to longest, making it easy to quickly find the right length for any occasion.

As for my shoes and accessories, I group them by weather and occasion. Flip-flops and sandals live on the right, while boots and booties take up the left side. Bags, hats, and other miscellaneous items have their own designated spaces.

The jewelry organizer on the back of the door is a godsend. Everything is arranged by type, from rings to necklaces, so I can find the perfect piece to complement my outfit in seconds.

The Beauty of Consistency

You might be thinking, “This is all well and good, but doesn’t it take forever to put everything away?” Well, you’re not wrong. It does take a bit more time to ensure each item finds its rightful place. But let me tell you, the payoff is well worth it.

You see, I’ve been using this same closet layout for the past 12 years, and it has served me incredibly well. The consistency allows me to develop muscle memory, so I can quickly and effortlessly put everything away. It’s become second nature, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Embracing the Crazy

I know that my level of closet organization might seem a bit… excessive to some. But here’s the thing: I love it. This is who I am, and I’m not ashamed to own it. In fact, I take great pride in my meticulously organized space.

As I mentioned on my blog, “This is the kind of stuff that makes my heart sing.” And you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Importance of Finding Your Groove

Now, I understand that this level of organization might not be for everyone. We all have our own preferences and comfort zones when it comes to managing our spaces. The key is to find a system that works for you, even if it’s not as elaborate as mine.

As the folks at Ask Charlie advise, “The most important thing is to find a way of organizing that makes you feel calm and in control.”

Decluttering for a Happier Home

Regardless of your organizational style, taking the time to declutter and streamline your closet can have a profound impact on your overall well-being. As Marie Kondo, the queen of organization, suggests, surrounding yourself with items that “spark joy” can lead to a more positive and fulfilling life.

So, whether you’re a fellow organizational enthusiast or someone who just wants to take their closet from chaos to calm, I encourage you to dive in and get started. Trust me, the sense of accomplishment and clarity you’ll feel will be well worth the effort.

Finding Inspiration in Unexpected Places

As I reflect on my own closet journey, I can’t help but wonder what other areas of my life could benefit from a similar level of organization. Perhaps it’s my pantry, my office, or even my sock drawer. The possibilities are endless!

And who knows, maybe someday I’ll even convince my husband, Brian, to let me work my magic on his closet. After all, Sofas Spectacular believes that a harmonious home starts with a well-organized space.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to put on your organizational hat and tackle that closet of yours. Trust me, the sense of calm and control you’ll feel will be nothing short of life-changing.
