Holiday Hideaway: Festive Decor for a Cozy Winter Retreat

As the nights grow longer and the temperature dips, there’s nothing quite like the allure of a cozy winter retreat. And when it comes to crafting the perfect holiday haven, the team at Sofa Spectacular has got you covered.

Warm and Welcoming Woodland Wonders

‘Tis the season to embrace the great outdoors – even from the comfort of your own home. Jenna Sue of Jenna Sue Design knows a thing or two about bringing the natural world in, having recently transformed her abode into a warm woodland wonderland for the holidays.

“I get really into Christmas decorating, especially with an excitable little one around,” Jenna Sue shares. “So I ended up with over 100 photos from this shoot – yikes! I’ll have to narrow it down a bit and spread the tour across three different posts.”

One of the standout features in Jenna Sue’s holiday haven? Her stunning tree. “We got a new tree this year and it was one of the best investments,” she raves. “The 9.5-foot size is no longer available, but you can get the 7.5-foot version if you still need a tree.”

To achieve the perfect woodland-inspired look, Jenna Sue started with several strands of wood bead garlands, then added a mix of gold, champagne, and copper ornaments – many of which she revived with a little Rub ‘n Buff. She also tucked in some fun woodland-themed ornaments and a few strategically placed berry sprays.

“I tied a handful of black velvet ribbons to finish it off,” Jenna Sue explains. “Our daughter Esmé loves pointing out all of the ornaments and naming the animal sounds. There’s nothing sweeter!”

Cozy Textures and Vintage Charm

But the holiday magic doesn’t stop at the tree. Throughout Jenna Sue’s home, you’ll find an abundance of cozy textures and vintage-inspired elements that create a truly inviting atmosphere.

“It was all about bringing the outdoors in with greenery around every corner,” she notes. Jenna Sue reused her lush garlands from last year, adorning them with gold velvet ribbon and bells for a touch of holiday elegance.

The living room, in particular, is a masterclass in blending rustic and refined. Wood tones, black accents, and vintage gold come together in perfect harmony, while plush textured throws and pillows beckon you to curl up and get cozy.

“On the coffee table, I have a large round wood tray with books and wood beads, next to my favorite 12-inch lantern,” Jenna Sue shares. “I also filled a DIY paper clay vessel with pinecones and greenery for a natural, earthy touch.”

And let’s not forget the stunning fireplace display. “The garland is actually a mix of seven different garlands, plus a bunch of filler,” Jenna Sue reveals. “That’s the only way to get it this full. I used two of these as the main garlands, but everything else is from last year and no longer available.”

The secret? Variety is key. “You can recreate this with pretty much anything, though,” Jenna Sue assures. “I even took the old dried eucalyptus leaves and dried flax grass from our Thanksgiving centerpiece and added those in.”

Elegant Accents and Magical Moments

No holiday retreat would be complete without a touch of elegance and enchantment. In Jenna Sue’s case, she’s mastered the art of adding those special finishing touches.

Take, for example, the adorable monogrammed stockings and reindeer decor she sourced from JCPenney. “They just melt my heart,” she gushes. And the mirror above the fireplace? “It’s finally back in stock at such a great price!”

Jenna Sue’s attention to detail extends to the dining room as well, where she’s draped swags and ribbon over the sconces for a subtle yet stunning effect.

“I was originally going to drape a garland around the chandelier, but decided that might be overkill and tied a small scrap piece of ribbon to the bottom instead,” she explains.

The result? A harmonious blend of rustic and refined that’s sure to inspire your own holiday decorating dreams.
