Utilize The Space Behind Toilets for Storage

As a self-proclaimed organizational enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about finding creative ways to maximize every inch of space in my home. And when it comes to the bathroom, there’s one often-overlooked area that’s ripe with untapped potential: the space behind the toilet.

Now, I know what you might be thinking – “Ugh, the space behind the toilet? That’s just a dusty, forgotten abyss where spare rolls of toilet paper go to die.” But hear me out, my friends. With a little bit of smart thinking and some elbow grease, you can transform that neglected nook into a veritable storage oasis.

Unveiling the Hidden Potential

When I first moved into my home, the space behind the toilet in my master bathroom was a cluttered mess. It had become a catch-all for all sorts of random items – extra toiletries, half-used bottles of shampoo, and even an old electric toothbrush that I hadn’t used in ages. It was the kind of space that, if left unchecked, could quickly devolve into a disorganized disaster zone.

But then, I had a lightbulb moment. Why not take advantage of all that vertical space and turn it into a functional storage solution? After all, the Life at Bella Terra blog had inspired me with its ingenious DIY shelving project, and I was determined to give it a try.

Building a Custom Storage Solution

Armed with my trusty power tools and a trip to the local hardware store, I set out to create my very own custom storage system. I picked up a couple of sleek, white laminated shelves, some sturdy brackets, and a simple mounting system. The goal was to create a two-tiered storage solution that would maximize the height of the space while still leaving room for larger items like my jewelry cleaning machine and Epsom salt containers.

Now, I’ll admit, the initial installation was a bit of a challenge, especially since my walls were made of plaster. I had to drill a hole in the plaster before I could securely mount the shelves. But once I got the hang of it, the rest of the project went smoothly.

Organizing the Nook

With the shelves in place, it was time to start organizing my newfound storage space. I was able to neatly arrange all of those random toiletries, shampoos, and other bathroom essentials on the shelves, finally giving them a proper home. And the best part? I could clearly see what I had in stock, so I wouldn’t accidentally make duplicate purchases.

But the organization didn’t stop there. I also found a clever way to tame the cords from my electric toothbrush and hair dryer. By using some clear Command hooks on the underside of the drawer above the nook, I was able to keep those pesky cords tucked away and out of sight.

A Multifunctional Marvel

One of the things I love most about this project is its versatility. While I initially set out to create a dedicated storage space, the design of the shelves actually allows me to use the nook for other purposes as well. If I ever decide I want to turn it into a makeshift vanity area, I can simply slide a chair underneath and voila – instant makeup station!

And let’s not forget the aesthetic appeal of this transformed space. Gone are the days of a cluttered, forgotten corner. Instead, I’m greeted by a clean, organized, and dare I say Pinterest-worthy storage solution every time I walk into my bathroom. It’s the little things in life, am I right?

The Joy of Organization

As someone who truly thrives on order and efficiency, this project has brought me so much satisfaction and delight. It’s amazing how something as simple as maximizing that unused space behind the toilet can have such a positive impact on my daily life.

Now, every time I reach for my hair dryer or need to restock on some bathroom essentials, I feel a sense of calm and control. No more rummaging through a tangled mess or wondering where I put that last roll of toilet paper. It’s all right there, neatly organized and easily accessible.

And let’s be honest, in a world that can sometimes feel chaotic and overwhelming, having a little oasis of order in my own home is truly priceless. It’s a constant reminder that with a little creativity and elbow grease, we can transform even the most overlooked spaces into functional, beautiful, and genuinely useful areas of our homes.
