Create your calm escape

Finding your happy space

I’ve never been particularly comfortable with sharing too much personal information about myself on social media. However, I am slowly getting used to the idea and understand that when a potential customer buys into my wellness brand, they need to buy into me. Let’s face it, guests will be spending quite a lot of time with me when they come on one of our Wellness Retreats, so the more they can get to know me as well as what we are offering at Sofa Spectacular, the better.

With this in mind, I wanted to share a personal project I have been working on over the past few weeks. Pretty much since lockdown 3.0 was announced in the New Year. Closing our doors again meant we wouldn’t have the usual busyness of guests staying in our Glamping Pods or Farmhouse B&B, particularly without any weddings taking place as well. I wanted a new project to focus my energy on, and creating my own Happy Space was it. Not only would it give me something challenging to do, but also once finished, hopefully, bring me more inner peace and calm amongst all the uncertainty.

The last year has also taught me that as much as I love my family, I also value some me-time. Sometimes we just all need somewhere to escape to, think, organize our thoughts, plan, and be creative. Our homes can also unwittingly be a distraction. There might be piles of laundry to sort through, dishes to be washed, or toys to clear away. This clutter can not only be distracting but can also make you feel disorganized and stressed. Having a little oasis of calm can be just the escape you need when your surroundings are becoming a little too frenetic, but tidying it all up there and then isn’t feasible. And so, my quest to create a peaceful space just for me began.

Designing my sanctuary

Somewhere to go to when I need a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A place where I would be able to meditate, record my Mindfulness Tips Vlogs, plan out the next Wellness Retreats, and just be. I’m fortunate enough to have started with more than a corner to create My Happy Space. I chose a room upstairs – my son’s old bedroom – away from any noise from people or kitchen appliances. This room had been somewhat neglected over the past few years, so it did require some decluttering, cleaning, and redecorating. Still, far easier to tackle one room to create a quiet haven than the entire house.

Not everyone has a spare room, of course. In which case, a space can even be created in the corner of your bedroom. After a couple of weeks of hard work, the room has taken shape. With final touches including cozy armchairs, my precious Buddha statue, mood lighting, a beautiful Himalayan salt wall and lamp, candles, cushions, and a blanket, it’s truly become my happy place.

If you’re not familiar with Himalayan Salt products, they are known to help purify the air around us, as well as being very therapeutic and beautiful to look at. Yes, it has taken some effort to create My Happy Space, but I already feel better inside, knowing I have this area to come to whenever I need some space to create, read, think, or relax. It’s not somewhere our guests will see, but the benefits this space will bring to me will hopefully rub off when it comes to delivering Wellness Retreats. The more balanced you feel inside, the more able you are to transfer this controlled and calm feeling to others.

Carving out your own oasis

I’d love to know if you have a Happy Space at home to escape to. Is this something you had before the pandemic impacted our lives, or something you created during lockdown? We honestly can’t wait to reopen our Wellness Retreats to both corporate and individual guests – it’s felt like a very long wait. If you would like to find out more about what we offer, please message me here or visit Sofa Spectacular.

As Melanie McCall beautifully put it, “The more balanced you feel inside, the more able you are to transfer this controlled and calm feeling to others.” That’s exactly what I’m hoping to achieve with my new Happy Space – a sanctuary where I can restore my inner peace and then share that sense of tranquility with our guests.

And as T.M. Watson reminds us, “We all need a peaceful haven to come home to or a space to unwind.” Whether it’s a designated room, a cozy corner, or even just a comfortable chair, carving out your own little oasis can make all the difference in finding that much-needed calm amidst the chaos.

So, what does your Happy Space look like? Is it filled with soothing colors, natural elements, and personal mementos? Or is it a minimalist retreat focused on simplicity and serenity? Whatever your vision, I encourage you to take the time to create a space that truly nourishes your soul. Because as Daisy Yellow reminds us, “The more news I read, the more anxious I get, and I have really been appreciating the artists, comedians, and musicians who are coming together to help others.” In times of uncertainty, our personal sanctuaries can be a powerful antidote to the stresses of the outside world.

At Sofa Spectacular, we believe that your home should be a haven – a place to truly unwind and recharge. That’s why we put so much care and attention into crafting our custom sofas, ensuring they not only look beautiful but also provide the ultimate in comfort and relaxation. Because when you have a cozy, inviting space to call your own, it becomes so much easier to find that elusive sense of calm and inner peace.

Embracing the power of presence

As I’ve learned through creating my own Happy Space, the key is to embrace the power of presence. Rather than letting your mind race with endless to-do lists and worries, take the time to be fully present in the moment. Notice the way the light filters through the window, the soothing scent of the candles, the soft fabric of the cushions beneath your fingertips. Allow yourself to truly disconnect from the outside world and simply be.

It’s in these quiet moments of stillness that we can find the clarity and inspiration we so often crave. Whether you’re jotting down ideas for your next big project, practicing mindfulness and meditation, or simply losing yourself in a good book, your Happy Space can become a wellspring of creativity and inner peace.

And who knows – maybe, just maybe, you’ll even stumble upon the solution to that pesky problem that’s been nagging at you for weeks. As Daisy Yellow so eloquently put it, “When I’m painting, I feel like I’m consulting my imagination, fueled by memories.” The same can be true for any activity that allows you to drop into a state of flow and let your subconscious mind work its magic.

So, whether you’re curled up on your custom sofa with a cup of tea, or nestled in your cozy armchair with a sketchpad in hand, embrace the power of presence and let your Happy Space work its restorative magic. Because in a world that often feels chaotic and overwhelming, having a personal sanctuary to retreat to can be an absolute game-changer.

The ripple effect of inner peace

As I mentioned earlier, the benefits of my Happy Space won’t just be for my own personal use. I’m hopeful that the sense of calm and balance I cultivate in this space will also positively impact the Wellness Retreats we offer at Sofa Spectacular.

After all, as Melanie McCall so wisely observed, “The more balanced you feel inside, the more able you are to transfer this controlled and calm feeling to others.” And that’s precisely what I aim to do – to share the restorative power of presence and mindfulness with each and every one of our guests.

Whether they’re joining us for a corporate team-building retreat or a personal wellness getaway, I want them to leave feeling rejuvenated, inspired, and equipped with practical tools to cultivate more inner peace in their own lives. Because let’s face it, the world can be a pretty crazy and overwhelming place these days. We all need those oases of calm to retreat to, where we can truly let our guards down and just be.

That’s why I’m so passionate about creating these transformative Wellness Retreats at Sofa Spectacular. It’s not just about offering a luxurious, comfortable place to stay – it’s about providing a holistic experience that nourishes the mind, body, and soul. And with my own Happy Space as a foundation, I know I’ll be able to bring an even deeper level of authenticity and presence to everything we do.

Because at the end of the day, what we’re really selling isn’t just custom sofas or wellness packages – it’s the opportunity to escape the chaos, find your calm, and unlock your true potential. And that, my friends, is the kind of transformative experience that can have a profound and lasting impact, long after our guests have returned home.

So, if you’re feeling frazzled, overwhelmed, or just in need of a little oasis of peace, I invite you to start exploring ways to create your own Happy Space. Whether it’s a cozy corner, a dedicated room, or even just a comfy chair in your living room, carve out that sacred space and let it work its restorative magic. Because when you invest in your own inner calm, the ripple effects can be truly remarkable.
