Growing up, I was always drawn to the unconventional. While my peers were content with the status quo, I found myself constantly seeking out the unexpected. Whether it was dying my hair a vibrant shade of purple (a look I’ve never quite mustered the courage to try, but admire from afar) or adorning my tennis racket with a smiley face, as the campers at Tennis and Life Camps do, I’ve never been one to shy away from a little whimsy.

This penchant for the offbeat has undoubtedly influenced my design aesthetic. As Kate Smith, the founder of Kate Smith Interiors, so eloquently put it, “Design can be an isolating field if you let it be.” But for me, the joy comes in breaking free from the confines of traditional design and embracing the unexpected. It’s about finding that delicate balance between gravitas and levity, as author Erin Hogan so masterfully does in her writing.
